Candice Hirson
Candice Hirson completed her degree in fine art at Wits School of Arts, University of Witwatersrand. Her preferred mode of creating art is organic, in that she tends to not restrict herself to one mode of expression through the label of a ‘photographer’ or a ‘painter’. Her work is often seen to span over various disciplines. Hirson studied clinical psychology on an undergraduate level, which has influence her interests as well as her art making processes. Hirson is one of the founding group members of artUp, a group of artists who have co organised and crated independent art exhibitions (‘Collaborations’ and ‘Work In Progress’) with the aim of showcasing young and emerging artists.
Candice Hirson works with photography, painting, and sculptural/installation art. In the string and fabric works Candice Hirson uses media which appeal to the tactile sensation. These materials are combined with words or used to form words which not only create visual sensation, but also suggest the aural sensation, that the words themselves represent.
The artist’s interest in the creative power of words is combined with the artist’s attraction to different surfaces and textures.Â
The artworks deal with search for a sense of peace. Whether though the use of words, or in a space. What is your peace? Information courtesy of the artist.
