Thematically, I play around with symbolic colours to express my emotions or personal issues. I was introduced to the symbolism of colours at Artist Proof Studio, Newtown, Johannesburg.
The first series in my search on printmaking techniques, for the state of Portfolio development and Advanced Portfolio Programme began in 2005. My interest in the visual arts lies in drawing, printmaking, photography, collaborating and writing. My ambitions are to become a professional printmaker.
The theme is a search for public awareness around future development, poor behaviour, untimely deaths, sickness, safety, hope and helplessness, past, present, roles within our community and ubuntu ( humanity).
My installation of photographs so far is about photo voice, where I selected my painting together with clinical documents after having an STI ( Sexual Transmitted Infection) that was cured last year.
The image “Untitled” 2007, mixed media, is a paper prayer for sexually transmitted infections, inspired by Kim Berman’s work. The paper prayer is for public awareness around our community and ubuntu because HIV/AIDS is a destroyer in our future development, by causing untimely deaths of fear.
The image also expresses the ark of Noah, from the Old Testament in the Holy Bible, Copied at the Johannesburg library. It is unintentional print with symbolic colours.
