Anthea Pokroy

I was born in Johannesburg in 1986 and have remained here throughout my life. After matriculating in 2003, I began to study a BA in Fine Arts and English Literature at the Unversity of the Witwaterstrand. I have recently graduated and obtained my degree with distinction. The prevailing media with which I work in my art practice, are photography and video.

Since my second year at university I have been involved in several group exhibitions. These include group shows at Wits’ Martienssen Prize (2005, 2006, 2007), Gordart Gallery (Well Spotted, 2007), the Bag Factory Artists’ Studios (Re/Action: Evening of Performance Art, 2007 and Pushplay >> Exhibition of Emerging Video Art, 2008), and the Absa L’Atelier Awards (2007, 2008). In conjunction to exhibiting, I co-curated (with Candice Hirson and Louise Ross) three group exhibitions in 2007 alone.
