Mlungisi Mathebe

Mlungisi Goodman Mathebe was born in 1983.

He attended Bhukulani Secondary School in Kwa-zulu Natal, completing matric in 2000. He attended the Mofolo Art Centre, working there until 2005. He joined the Artists Proof Studio printmaking courses in 2006.

He states:

My work is a metaphor and has been inspired by dreams for as long as I can remember. My dreams are a source of information in creating an artwork.

Printmaking has shifted the way I think and the way I make art. Being a ‘visa versa’ way of creating images, it influences the way I build up a concept.

I use abstract or distorted forms to express my feelings because dreams are sometimes abstract. They raise questions about the real world, so my images are metaphors for all the spiritual things of life expressed in an extraordinary manner.

My works have a lot of questions and answers about constraints and wrongs that are happening.
