Hot Earth

Opens 14 October 2007, 15:30 for 16:00

A solo exhibition featuring recent works by Jeannette Unite.

Opening address by Justice Malala.

About the Exhibition:

Hot Earth, marks a new body of work by Jeanette Unite. Her continued fascination with mining and minerals like diamonds and platinum becomes the focus of this solo exhibition; a collection of distinctive large scale molten glass works, energetic drawings and zen-like paintings (sandscapes) on mining within South Africa. Her unique take on using oxides, minerals pigments and sands from various mining sites in her work has rendered her art a poignantly conceptual yet vastly tactile and beautifully decorative journey for the mind. Jeanette’s foray into mining and its many conceptual layers; colonial, environmental, economical and personal; ensure a riveting exhibition.  Last year Unite won the CSIR Dept of Science & Technology, Pretoria, glass art wall competition and her glass installations are a feature of the exhibition.

Exhibition runs from 14 October to 3 November 2007
