About the Exhibition:
The exhibition showcases the exploration of personal Histories and the artist's search to define an individual identity through visual media. The exhibition features the large scale drawings of Bongile Mkhize and Nelson Makamo as well as prints by Weasly Pepper, Mlungisi Mathebo and John Taouss among others.
Marking Identity is an exhibition about journeys of the mind, the soul and the body. It portrays journeys of escape, trial and hope; journeys taken in dreams; occasioned by desires, social intercourse and rite of passage; journeys demanded by authority figures as well as everyday journeys taken to and from work.
Ultimately the exhibition expresses a common journey taken by each exhibitor through art, the printing press, paper and drawing materials. The Exhibition aims to show the joy, the therapy, the communication of feelings, the search for , and creation of identity through art by a number of rising and talented young artists in Johannesburg.
