Through my paintings I explore ideas surrounding a journey – daily, weekly and through life. I look at history, memory and politics; exploring the way that I see the world and interact with it. What information do I retain and what do I find interesting or boring? I depict these things in my paintings. I am interested in the city, specifically Johannesburg because it is the place I call home and interact with daily. I depict cityscapes but I also look at layering and the formal complexities of the painting process. I explore how I can make something that is seen daily, or rather no longer seen at all because it is so mundane and ordinary, become interesting and intriguing once more. Recently I have also started referring to images from other places, such as Germany which I visited this year. How do these places differ from my normal environment?
