William Saunders

William matriculated at St John’s College in 2001 with honours.

He completed his National Diploma in Industrial Design (University of Johannesburg) and followed it with a Bachelor of Technology, Industrial Design in 2006. He has recently completed his BA Technology, Ceramic Design 2007 (cum Laude). 

For a young designer William has a number of bursaries and awards under his belt. He was a winner in the Elle Decoration Solve Switch 2005 competition. He received the University of Johannesburg Post Graduate Incentive Bursary, in both 2006 and 2007 as well as the Ceramics SA Tim Morris Bursary in 2007.

Melding my Industrial Design and Ceramic design backgrounds, I am interested in the expressive qualities afforded through the ceramic discourse. Working as a designer maker, my products are not only functional but contain a conceptual element, exploring various aspects of death, life and religion.
